What does it mean to obey God?

As a follower of Jesus, do you see obedience ONLY as God asking you to ‘go ye into the world and preach the gospel?’

How can you decode this obedience I’m always referring to as an essential ingredient for SPIRITUAL growth?

1. As a child of God, understand that you have the HolySpirit dwelling inside of you. Not for decoration, but for a primary purpose-To help you Know God, the Father that birthed you.

2. Obedience is when you heed his voice and allow him guide you in ALL your decisions.

You can spend your life preaching the gospel, but if your heart isn’t purified by that gospel, if you’re not taking deloberate steps to obey the Holy Spirit’s voice in your choices, then you’re not growing.

The true evidence of obedience is seen in how your heart is changing.

God cares so much more about what’s going on INSIDE you than anything else happening without

A natural man can judge your external, but God knows the transactions going on inside you. And that’s how He judges. Not by the alms you give or the number of people you evangelised to.

Here’s an example.

I remember going to buy something and felt attacked by the person attending to me. I felt she was raising her voice at me in front of everyone at the store and at that moment my flesh was about to react.

But deep inside I heart the spirit say ‘Don’t’

My flesh felt justified. And you know the way flesh likes to exaggerate things. She may or may not have done it intentionally.

Suddenly, thoughts rose from within

‘Why would she talk to you like that?’
‘Would you allow her talk to you like that?’
‘She just embarrassed you’

But my spirit knew that if I responded, this could happen:

1. I would lose out on transforming into Christ within my soul.
2. I would escalate the issue and cause unnecessary attention.
3. I would leave worse than I came, knowing I could have just obeyed the Spirit.

Although I was pained, and I felt foolish for letting it go, deep down I knew I had done the right thing.

The right thing is what God tells us to do, not what we ‘think’ should be done.

It’s those little foxes in the heart that spoil the vine. And God wants to cleanse us.

Nobody saw what was going on in my heart. If I chose to disobey God there, nobody would know either. It’s between me and God and the holy knock they’ll give me when I return to the house

So obedience to God is just yielding to the Spirit’s voice in everything you do

Obedience and repentance begins from within

While it’s good to ‘go into the world and preach’, PLEASE pay attention to the transactions going on in your heart. This is CRUCIAL

Satan’s sin began from within before he was thrown out of heaven.
