anti idpol people get a lot of mileage out of supposedly bucking partisan lines.
people who attack idpol include actual Nazis, rabid right shitheads like Ben Shapiro and Candace Owens, center right doofuses like Andrew Sullivan, center left types like Matt Yglesias, and more socialist than thou folks like Bruenig.
so there's this claim that they're brave contrarians, often, since the anti idpol position isn't exactly associated with left, right, and center. but
what if the real fault lines in our politics are not left/right/center but instead are about racism/antiracism?
a bunch of (mostly) white guys lining up to say that we need less antiracism suddenly doesn't look quite so contrarian, really.
the anti idpol people are forming solidarity based on identity, not ideology, is what I'm arguing.
