Today I learned about a magical software agent sold to a portion of IT to solve all their problems.

It's absolute fairy chaff, but the fact they are touting to us features and abilities our endpoint software suite already provides, means there's some silo problems going on here.
I absolutely cannot emphasize enough to anyone in IT as a small fish in a big pond: Learn the suite of what's installed on endpoints, and just start reading the manuals. You don't need permission, you don't need access.
A lot of stuff, they don't even have proper admins for.
The fact is you can competently administer a Windows network with very little. Active Directory killed every other directory+management system for a reason.
Except for software deployment it can't do, everything on top is quality-of-life or roaming flexibility or monitoring.
Note this is about administration of a Windows machine network, if you try to stand up an Exchange server without tons of enterprise tech you're going to get rekt.
You can follow @SwiftOnSecurity.
