i feel like no one really realizes how easy it is to pick up editing software and just having a go at your ideas

i haven’t edited anything on my computer in ages because the phone has so many tools for it

so here’s all the shit you need to make a meme or two: A THREAD

let’s start with imovie

i’ll be the first to admit that it’s VERY rudimentary in comparison to other tools in existence

however, memes aren’t really that hard to make compared to huge projects

stitching videos together is easy, and placing audio over video is easy, what else?

well, you can place transparent background images over video, and even green screen videos can be worked with to make something simple

though if you’re in the business of making said images or videos move, i recommend this supplementary app:

still, there’s a lot of problem solving in video editing, so you’ll have to find your own answers from time to time, like “how do i bass boost a video?”

a simple way is upping the volume on the video, saving it, and continuing to do so till your ears bleed just right

there’s a ton of simple workarounds like that, but image editing is another beast entirely

not to say that it’s harder, but there isn’t a catch-all tool for everything like with imovie

first on the list is simple text over image stuff

here’s where simple ol’ photos app is up

non apple users, sorry about this one, just skip forward a bit

i don’t know who needs to hear this, but the photos app has a thingamajig called “markup” that allows you to add text, add bubbles, and add squares to images, as well as uhhh, marking up

you can block out text from an existent meme format with a black box, for example, and replace it with whatever suits you best

just recently, apple added a color selector that can use existent colors within pictures to break your fall, so that’s pretty neat

however, that’s where it sorta falls short

photos is very useful for quick little things, which is how you can make little memes that adapt to specific situations and such

it’s good, but not great, and whatsapp has a pretty good text adding feature too, so that’s that

if you wanna drop the kiddy stuff, if you wanna go big, if you’re looking for the major leagues

there’s really no other option but these bad boys:

yes in that order of importance, or at least to me

let’s tackle the head honcho first: photoshop mix

not only is this app free, but it’s incredibly convenient for image over image editing, background removal (with a smart feature and adjustable manual editing), and a more elaborate text over image system with more fonts

it’s rather intuitive to understand, so i hope all goes well if you venture that way

you can duplicate layers, move layers around, and do all sorts of crazy things

mix and match different images, place things on new environments, add faces to existent memes, switch things up

mix is probably the most versatile of all the tools on this list, and i highly recommend it

photoshop fix however, i use for one simple and beautiful little feature: clean up

oh how wonderful it is, with its ease of use

especially for removing text from an existent picture, this tool is adaptable as it comes, and you can remove just about anything that isn’t agreeable

take your time with photoshop fix though, it’ll be trial and error for big things, but small ones are practically no problem

you can use a brush that uses another part of the picture to make it blend in with the rest almost seamlessly, and it gets the job done most of the time

photoshop express is simple though: i just use it to make collages when i need to

with the occasional top text bottom text format meme here and there (which it has as “memes” on a preset

)

with these three tools you have all it takes to do what i do (which isn’t much really)

now finally, to find what you need to make edits in video or image, really just use google and youtube for all you need honestly

that sounds like a given, but trust me there’s a lot of stuff in here to unpack

meme formats galore are on here, and even more useful schmuck

just screen record a song on youtube and pop it into imovie as “audio only”, you’re good to go

screen record a sound effect, those are there too

some people make green screen versions of memes out of the kindness of their hearts

it really ain’t hard

as for the internet, there’s tools for deepfrying images with a simple search

you’ll find fonts on font websites, and though you can’t copy them and paste them onto images, you CAN save previews they offer as images and remove the background

voila, you’ve solved your problem

making memes is really fun, and i know most just use what they see even though i’m sure there’s ideas for memes wherever you go

no one really gives it a shot cuz they think it’s harder than it actually is

sure there’s a bit of effort involved, but honestly? it’s very fun

i encourage you to try your best at making something on your own, and if you’re having doubts about anything i said you can ask me directly

it’s a fun world out here and i know most people are missing out on how great it feels to create something even if it’s for a dumb lil joke
