Just because I can, a thread of my anticipated 2021 releases. I'm including books I have ARCs of because seeing other people's reactions to books I've read is a big part of the fun
Amari and the Night Brothers by B. B. Alston. A young Black girl infiltrates a magical government agency to find her missing brother. Love the cover, and I'm trying to read more MG. Sounds like it has a lot of heart. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/53240817-amari-and-the-night-brothers
Root Magic by Eden Royce. I love the haunting atmosphere of Royce's short stories, so I'm super excited for this MG offering. Heard her talk about it at FIYAHCon, and there'll be dialect and magic and spirits, which is a fabulous combo. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/42284338-root-magic
Sorrowland by Rivers Solomon. It's been on my TBR since before a synopsis was available because Solomon is a brilliant author, and I'll read anything they write. For those who do want a synopsis, this is a genre blender about a woman who flees a cult. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/48915089-sorrowland
The Conductors by Nicole Glover. A fantasy murder mystery set in post-Civil War Philly. I'm near the city, so I'm looking forward to seeing how much of the history and landmarks I'll be familiar with. And it's been a while since I've read a good whodunnit. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/50828305-the-conductors
The Unbroken by C. L. Clark. Clark consistently writes f/f fantasy short story goodness, and I am so ready to have that in a novel. It's about a princess and a soldier and they're grumpy and don't like each other until one day...

Josephine Against the Sea by Shakirah Bourne. This is an MG fantasy about a vengeful water spirit. Cover is beautiful, and I love stories about female athletes (Josephine plays cricket). https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/52497242-josephine-against-the-sea
Bacchanal by Veronica Henry. This is a historical fantasy about an eeeeevil carnival
I'm a sucker for that setting - the fun house mirrors, the wonky music. Ready to read this and get all the goosebumps. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/54670322-bacchanal

A Master of Djinn by P. Djeli Clark. Clark's action scenes are superb, and he writes engrossing relationships. I loved Agent Fatma and her dapper aesthetic in A Dead Djinn in Cairo, and I can't wait to spend more time with her... and finally meet her gf https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/52504334-a-master-of-djinn?from_search=true&from_srp=true&qid=q2l6UGNwNt&rank=1
Escaping Exodus: Symbiosis by Nicky Drayden. As much as Seske aggravates me, she always brings the drama. I loved the world of the Zenzee and can't wait to spend more time there. I'm hearing worryingly little about Adalla

Remote Control by Nnedi Okorafor. Young characters who are old beyond their years always choke me up, and I don't know how Sankofa can be anything else when she's been raised by Death. I feel like this is going to put my heart through the wringer. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/53205922-remote-control
