This pandemic debacle is sad but what worries me most is not COVID. My biggest concern is that we learn from this but not recognize the root cause of this problem. The unspoken problem. (1/18)>>
While I am not particularly fond of small-scale (earthโ€™s) nature I respect it immensely. In fact, it is one of the few things I have unshakable faith in. The earth existed long before humans. Approximately 3.5 Billion years before us, (2/18)>>
give or take a Billion One thing that is absolutely certain is that the universe will go on with or without humanity. (3/18)>>
It is my opinion that it would be a great tragedy for humanity to disappear though.

As far as we know this is the only example of a conscious civilization advancing in the whole universe. I personally believe there to be others but we have yet to find evidence. (4/18)>>
As a matter of fact, the more we learn about the cosmos the more we realize how rare & special the earth is. Itโ€™s a cold & dark universe out there. It doesnโ€™t appear that we will find another reachable earth-like planet any time soon. (5/18)>>
This tiny precious rock hurdling through the void is all we have.

Some of us have recognized the damage humanity has done to our home & are working to fix that. Thatโ€™s all good but it still doesnโ€™t address the root cause. (6/18)>>
The uncomfortable issue we all know but almost no one wants to broach or discuss. Overpopulation.

The fact is this planet has a finite amount of space. At the time of writing this, global population is approximately 7.82 Billion. (7/18)>>
(๐˜›๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ค๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ต ๐˜ฏ๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ ๐˜ค๐˜ข๐˜ฏ ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ง๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ: https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/#.X7RReWux_Gk.twitter) The United Nations estimate that number will climb to 8.4 Billion by 2030. That rises to 9.7 billion by 2050, & to a mind-boggling 11.2 Billion people by 2100. (8/18)>>
Even though we are still a young species we remarkably analytical, ingenious, & creative. We will find contrivances in the future to slake the negative effects of our expansion but those too will become inadequate. (9/18)>>
The fact is what lies ahead is all but inevitable. We will be forced to deal with this problem, one way or another.

I fully understand why everyone would rather avoid talking about this. As soon as one recognizes the problem, the first, (10/18)>>
and simplest solution arrived upon is to suppress breeding. Once a group decides to select who can & cannot breed that means there has to be someone to decide & criteria that will always be debatable. (11/18)>>
This is very akin to Eugenics & NAZIsm was so horrendous it terrified the world of even glancing down that path again. The only way to avoid any hint of racism, xenophobia, or any other favoritism would be enacting a criteria of something like promoting intelligence, (12/18)>>
or some kind of lottery system. We are actually early enough in this problem that we could even institute something like incentivized sterilization. Offer money or something of value to voluntarily undergo sterilization. Things like a minimum age, (13/18)>>
& basic understanding will of course have to be instituted.

These are all incomplete & debatable solutions. I donโ€™t clim to have all the answers &. What I do know is without action we are heading towards an eventuality. We will only see an increase in plague, war, (14/18)>>
famine, & emigration.

H1N1, ebola, SARS, before COVID we had many warnings. I see COVID as of final warning. Nature is about to break her serenity. How ironic it would be for the whole of humanity to be wiped out by a plague. After all, we behave exactly like a virus. (15/18)>
We spread & consume everything in our path with disregard for the health of our host. Climate change is just earth running a fever. We may cool it down but only stopping the spread will deal with the root cause.

Itโ€™s difficult for most to care about future generations.(16/18)
I personally donโ€™t even like most of the people on earth right now. I do, however, treasure humanity. To borrow a quote from (17/18)>>
We are unique & there is beauty in our struggle. If we disappeared from the universe it would go largely unnoticed but what a great tragedy that would be. (18/18)
