Like a lot of people on the left, I have spent much of my adult life being lectured by Republicans about how they and ONLY they really care about democracy and ethics, while the likes of me just hate America.
I never, EVER want to hear those words cross their lips again.
I never, EVER want to hear those words cross their lips again.
2/ I don't believe that any party has a lock on virtue of patriotism. But the willingness of Republicans to support a President who is refusing to accept the results of an election that he plainly lost, to try to undermine confidence in our elections more generally, and now ...
3/ to go to court asking that legitimate ballots of whole states be thrown out, and refusing to certify Detroit's votes for no reason at all --
It's just shameful.
It's just shameful.
4/ How quickly their supposed commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and our Constitution just melted away when Donald Trump -- DONALD TRUMP, of all people -- told them to abandon it.
How insubstantial their characters turned out to be.
How insubstantial their characters turned out to be.
5/ To watch the very people who have been calling people like me secret haters of our country and lecturing us on our supposed lack of patriotism just fold as soon as it's in their interest to do so --
well, it's instructive.
well, it's instructive.
6/ As I said: I never want to hear them lecture me on patriotism or virtue or civic responsibility for the rest of my natural life.
Those are values I take seriously. I always have. And they, apparently, do not.
They should be beyond ashamed.
