For about a decade, my partner & I lived too far away from our families to do Christmas with them in person. So, based on my 10 years of experience of isolation Christmases, here are some tips. 🎄
1. You will miss your family. Or will you? I love my family, but holy smokes a lot of them in one house together? SO MUCH NOISE. Also, running between his family, my family, to friends' parties etc.? Exhausting. This year, relax. And maybe note what you don't miss.
2. Make the day decadent. Fancy coffee. Stuff to make a lavish brunch. The good shrimp ring. Your favourite chocolates. Don't like turkey? Don't bother with it.
3. Go for a nice long walk. Bundle up if you live somewhere cold. Come back in for your favourite warm beverage.
4. Get yourself some nice PJs to wear for the day. You'll be cozy, but also put together for the next step.
5. Call your people. Your family. Your friends. Video call them. Look at their lovely, loved faces. Tell them you miss them.
6. And finally. Feel your feelings. But also, go outside at night and look up at the sky. The stars are there just like always. This is a weird time. But it is temporary. I'd rather miss seeing my people this year than have to do without a single one next year.
