I had the absolute pleasure of speaking with the Disney Legend over the weekend about Mulan and her love for #StarWars growing up. Wen paused catching up on the #ThisIsUs premiere to chat on a Sat night. This is the first part of our convo.

Let me tell you, Wen is immensely tight-lipped. When I asked if we’ll learn Shand’s fate, she responded saying I “saw the episode. She got shot close range.” I asked her if she’s seen how many times they brought back Darth Maul and she started cracking up.

Plus, we JUST learned Boba Fett survived the Sarlacc pit! When I told Wen there was a reason she wasn’t shot in the head this was her response: "From your mouth to Jon Favreau’s ears."

I continued, telling her I would have let it go, but we saw someone approach her body at the end of Chapter 5. I said it seems like someone has plans for her. Wen said she liked my theory "A LOT."

When I asked if she’d like for us to see more of Fennec, Wen said, "I would like for you to start a petition…They just announced that they [were] picked up for season three. So I want you to start a petition, sort of like what they did wit #CoulsonLives — #FennecLives."

What I didn’t realize was that Ming-Na Wen grew up LOVING #StarWars so it meant a LOT for her to step into this universe.

"I remember when I was a little girl and I'd be drawing pictures of me in sort of a Han Solo get up."

She is the only person to play a Disney princess, a Marvel hero, and #StarWars character. I told her Samuel L. Jackson comes close to holding that honor too (playing Disney/Marvel/SW characters), but Wen pointed out Jackson is not a Disney princess (though he'd make a cool one).

In 2019, Wen was given the title of Disney Legend. When she was read the letter from Bob Iger, she burst cried.

"I always tell kids, I'm an example. Believe in your dreams and never stop dreaming. Never stop believing that something that you want can happen."

TL;DR: Never give up on your dreams — whether that's being a part of the #StarWars universe or anything else.

One last note: I can’t express how fun this back-and-forth was w/ Ming-Na Wen over Fennec Shand’s fate. Maybe I’ll clip some audio later b/c I smiled so much listening back to this and I'm sure it would make some of you as well.
