The job market is fucking brutal right now so if you’re in the market for a new opportunity, this is a short thread on nailing down a process to aid in your search. This approach mirrors sales development, and helped me land interviews at reputable firms and tech companies
Most of my career experiences have been in sales development. The goal of sales development is to qualify leads and drive them through the sales process. Most leads (potential buyers) are generated from outbound sourcing- cold calling, emailing, social selling, etc
Every sales development rep (pros in general) has a quota they’re moving towards. In order to hit that quota, it’s literally and figuratively a numbers. You have to keep your sales funnel full. The more leads you have, the more potential buyers.
As you drive leads through the sales funnel, most will naturally drop off. Which is why it’s important you have a ton of actionable prospects. In order to capture a decent quantity, you have to use a few methods of outreach (never just 1; different customers have diff profiles)
Now for some folks, an automated email sent out en masse does the trick. Others require personalization (the preferred method for folks you absolutely want as buyers). Eventually, you’ll get a buyer. The same can be applied to your career search.
In the case of looking for a job, automated emails = cold applying, shooting an application into the abyss without connecting with a human beforehand. This is what a high percentage of folks do. Some times it yields great results, but it shouldn’t be your only strategy.
Like with sales development, you have to take a few different outreach methods to hook leads. For those juicy leads (roles) that you actually want, personalization goes a long way. Meaning you want to try to put a face to your resume. The best way to do that is through LinkedIn.
