Right before closing bell of #USCCB20, @ArchbishopGomez expressed concern, brought to him by USCCB committee chairman about the presidential election.
Says Biden's professed Catholic faith will move him in policy decisions for immigration reform, refugees, the poor, against racism and the death penalty and for climate change.
But notes that Biden also gives the bishops reason to believe that he will will "support policies that are against fundamental policies that we hold dear as Catholics"-- repeal of the Hyde Amendment and preservation of Roe v Wade.
Both of these policies undermine the preeminent priority of the elimination of abortion, Archbishop Gomez said.
Added: We have long opposed these policies strongly and will continue to do so. When politicians who profess the Catholic faith support them, there are additional problems.
This creates confusion with the faithful, he adds, about what the Catholic Church teaches. Says the bishops will set up a working group to help them navigate this "difficult and complex situation." #USCCB20
Also this concluded the meeting, so there were no comments afterward and there is no usually scheduled press conference today.
