I don't know why, but Cybertronian biology is really interesting to me and with a fee exceptions it's very rarely explored.

And what's really interesting about it is that every series adds information but rarely do they retcon it, pretty much everything except Budding has stuck
Transformation cogs and brain modules were introduced in g1, sparks were introduced in Beast Wars and retconed into g1 alt mode scanning was integrated into the body in the beast era and became the standard depiction of it
I'm not sure when exactly it's stated that living metal can absorb any component, allowing for rudimentary repairs using earth technology, but I trust Chris McFeely.
The movie comics introduced the idea that ammo grows naturally as an extension of their bodies, that's interesting
The aligned continuity stated that living metal can change composition (also featured in age of extinction) to become glass, leather, wood etc for vehicle interiors.
The aligned continuity also introduced the idea that the metal is flexible and can stretch to a certain degree, a good explanation for how their mouths can move without loads of tiny little moving parts.
Even if all these little intricacies aren't mentioned it's safe to assume that sparks, t-cogs, brain modules, living metal etc are all consistent there's no reason for the basic biological facts of the cybertronian species to change between universes unless it's explicitly stated
There's no real point to this thread I just find this topic interesting
