#Women in informal recycling have formed networks of material and social provisioning to ensure their livelihoods & everyone else’s in the process. Their practices are an inspiration for a socially restorative and #regenerative #circulareconomy @DiscardStudies #Discard2020 1/10

From a critical perspective, we present a framework of social 9Rs for a fair and inclusive economy that complement the 9Rs by @circulareconomy, Kirchherr and others that mostly focus the on materials, such as #remanufacturing, #reusing, #recycling, etc 2/10

These social 9Rs are defined by the combination of 3 frameworks: 1) dignity at work through the demands of recyclers: #recognition of the work, #redistribution through guaranteed access to #waste and source separation & #remuneration @WIEGO @RedLacre @GAIA_LAC 3/10

2) recognition, #redistribution and reduction of the burden of #care on women for people & #planet, underscoring the connection between violence towards #women and #nature through the lens of #ecofeminism HT @drvandanashiva 4/10

3) #justice for those affected by spaces of #waste disposal through recognition, redistribution of #wastemanagement and political representation for those that have been marginalized by the system and whose space has been a #sacrificezone HT #SteveLerner 5/10

The 10 interviews with women #wastepickers leaders in #Ecuador and #Colombia highlight their fight to overcome #oppression -following HT #IrisYoung’s framework- through sharing experiences & training among recycling leaders with a ripple effect for all #wastepickers 6/10

As many #LatinAmerican and #emergingeconomies explore the transition to a #circulareconomy, they must ensure the #inclusion of #informal sectors and take advantage of the #socialprovisioning communities that already exist 7/10
