'What’s going on with: Jonathan Taylor?’
After a Historic Career as a Wisconsin Badger and an eye-popping NFL Combine, the writing was on the wall for Taylor to become an immediate contributor for the Indianapolis Colts.
What’s held up his Rookie breakout?
Enjoy!

‘Sequencing & Recognition’
While transitioning to the NFL level, the ‘speed of the game’ is a primary element.
The sequence in which events happen are remarkably quick.
They need to be perceived & anticipated for success to be a constant.
Perceive - Anticipate - React

Momentum is Taylor’s best friend. At nearly 230lbs he can get up to a velocities of 22mph +.
The absence of momentum is deceleration/stagnation, which he wants to avoid due to how difficult it is to steer movement at his size & velocity.

‘Inefficient pathing’
Decision-making when contact is imminent is as simple as ‘Engage or Evade’
Taylor bails out of acceleration, when the more efficient path would be to veer towards the boundary in hopes of creating space with a straight arm.
The NFL has a learning curve.

Now, we see the opposite situation where Taylor should recognize a downhill continuation & take advantage.
Best path = Continue towards & through #32.

'Consistency at the 2nd level’
Getting downhill through contact is what Taylor does best.
He doesn’t possess the dynamic lateral skill set to bend plays back or to manipulate defenders at the second level.
However, he can still be very successful with greater consistency.

Getting Taylor involved outside the tackles & in the screen game is an excellent way to increase his comfort level & help him adapt to the cognitive differences the NFL provides.
Give him time to learn, study & grow into efficiency.

'When can we expect what we thought?'
Similar to Miles Sanders in 2019, the Eagles scheming him into space while he was learning/adjusting paid dividends to his overall developmental arc.
The Colts have the environment to make Taylor comfortable, just as the Eagles did.

There is no concrete timeline for when consistent success will come, but Taylor has all the physical tools to be a great back.
With the Colts sound offensive environment & bright coaching staff he can grow into a Pro-bowl caliber rusher.
