On Sunday, November 15th, I was arrested while peacefully protesting at BLM Plaza. Two t**** supporting white supremacist claimed I assaulted them. @DCPoliceDept protected them.
Without speaking to me or collecting evidence that could counter this claim despite there being severe witness that saw our interaction, I was kettled by 30 police officers and snatched away. The only warning as they approached me was “Stop Resisting”
Now - the funny thing is I was initially arrested for simple assault. While being processed my charge was then escalated to committing a hate crime.
I spent the next 24 hours in jail. I was released with a stay away order and I had court date in April.
All weekend, we’ve seen the MPD give violent facists a voice and space to exercise the rights all over Washington DC.
The destroyed our art and they weaponized our police against us. This is among many other things is why we say defund the police.
I am tired today but I’m also very grateful. I had a whole community of people working hard to make sure I was safe while in custody. I am so very thankful for all the messages and honestly better detective work that anyone working in the criminal justice system could do.
Defund the police and give the money to people doing great work in the community - @TTCabolition @DcProtests my friends at The Palm Collective and of course my own amazing and stellar team at @TweetTheBAR I love you. You’re incredible. I’m so proud to be in communing with you.
I’m doing great all things considered. I have counsel, I’m ordering Taco Bell, I have a terrible hangover because someone knew that I would need tequila immediately upon my release. Thank you to everyone who continues to protect and serve Black people. Fuck 12. Fuck DT.
