Im once again asking you to just use twitch as a tool until you can apply for partner and do not do their affiliate program.
For folks who are confused, I'm gonna give a little bit of tough love, this is the entertainment industry. There are SO MANY streamers and streams, if you choose affiliate on one website and choose to give them a cut on the very little you make doing this- that's on you (cont)
But if you use it as a tool and don't sign any contracts, you can stream in other places and find your audience. Sure you wont get a sub button but you could have other means of revenue via Tips which you get instantly instead of waiting till you hit at $100 threshold-
if someone gives you $20 in bits and you never hit that $100 threshold you'll never see that money. If they tip (never donate. Stop saying donations, they're tips) $20 to you, bam you have that now. You can use that to get some treats or something nice. No amazon cut.
Also it's been pointed out that non affiliate channels don't have pre-roll ads! That's so fucking good! you can just stream and folks don't have to take another step on already short attention spans to watch your content.
"But I've been affiliate for years now! Why would I leave!?" This is where the tough love comes in, if you're stuck on this level, you could be making more money but you're not. You're actively just making money for amazon instead of yourself-
It's rare for folx to actually make it to partner status, sure it's easier than before, but if you're nowhere near those numbers and you've been affiliate for years? It's not a smart business move to stay an affiliate. This is why I say use it as a tool, not as a set career path.
now if you're someone who WILL make it to partner? Not going affiliate immediately isn't gonna hurt that. if you have hella numbers and folx coming to see you and tipping you- you'll STILL be making more money than if you were apart of an affiliate program.
But the emotes and the sub button!! Make some BTTV emotes, they're free and folx just need a chrome extension. There you go. If emotes are the only reason folx are giving you money tho, then it isn't gonna help much if they're not enjoying your show and personality.
now I know for a lot of folx who really wanted the dream of being Partner, and have been grinding away with the affiliate status for a while, this can be frustrating- try not to take it personally, but definitely try to remove yourself from the Bleed Purple Kool-Aid to think
"How much money do I make here with my affiliate subs?" "How much money would I make if those were tips instead?"
"How much would I make if I got a much larger cut of profits with ko-fi or Patreon?"
I'd rather have double the income than half for my hard work.
But Austen I LIKE being an affiliate, i don't wanna leave!
Ok! That's all good. Then do it! If you don't mind how it all is then that's fine. I wish you the best.
My goal is to help folx succeed, and there is never just one path, even if that path is well decorated in purple.
Just don't trust a corp to give you a career and think about this as logically as possible and make educated decisions that benefit YOU- not a company.

P.S. If you've been affiliate for longer than a year and are no where near partner, but still wanna make $$ and stream for fun, drop that contract baybee. You deserve to make money and not play into some weird hype thing of partner being your carrot on a stick.
