Mr. Pallister has no respect for unions & collective bargaining. He will interfere & use both lawful & unlawful (Bill 28) means to do so: threats & intimidation are apparently lawful when a provincial government does it. This is union bashing raised to high art.

Mr. Pallister wants to defund higher education. He is an ideologue committed to a much smaller public sector, pandemic or not. That includes universities that are key to the post-pandemic recovery. But pandemics are extremely useful for hiding a radical agenda.

I’m not sure if this is the primary motivation or just an added bonus to Pallister's policy of defunding higher ed. Voters with more education are less likely to vote Conservative / Republican. Ergo, defunding higher education suits them right down to the ground.
