welp. here comes more forced holiday decorating. i guess @NintendoAmerica @animalcrossing just doesn't care about alienating non-Christian players. https://twitter.com/animalcrossing/status/1328699747297857539
if they did, we wouldn't be dressing as Santa and delivering gifts. we wouldn't have Christmas trees in our plaza. we wouldn't have an obviously Jewish dreidel that only comes in red and green, the colors most commonly associated with Christmas.
@animalcrossing @NintendoAmerica
please. give us the option of decorating the island for a holiday.
give Jewish players some representation, because the "festive top set" is actually antisemitic. it literally erases any significance the actual dreidel has.
@animalcrossing @NintendoAmerica
please give us a winter holiday event character that isn't based on modern Christianity. i a) don't want to perpetuate passive acceptance of Christianity as the default or norm, and b) don't really think animals would celebrate Christmas.
@animalcrossing @NintendoAmerica
why wouldn't they celebrate just the turning of the seasons? why do presents have to be from Santa?
keep toy day, that's fine. but move it earlier to coincide with winter solstice. keep jingle, but don't have him dressed as Santa. give him a snowy white coat instead of red.
and Turkey Day. why continue to ignore the horrible history of Thanksgiving? it could just as easily be a harvest festival with no connections to white colonialism and murder.
@animalcrossing @NintendoAmerica
please. i just want some inclusivity. i want to be able to play this otherwise pretty great game without having Christianity shoved in my face. i'm not Christian, never have been, and find this very offensive.
@animalcrossing @NintendoAmerica
because not even in a fantastical video game where animals talk can i escape from Christmas and the assumption that everyone is Christian/celebrates Christmas. i just want one small space where these things aren't considered the default.
