your characters like this is extremely harmful and just encourages the stereotype that gay men are predatory. if you really feel the need to include this type of character, NEVER have them as the only blatantly mlm character. however, it's just better to avoid this in general.

the stereotype of mlm (more often gay men) being super flamboyant and feminine. it is always good and i encourage you to include gnc characters, but if all of your mlm rep is made up of loud, flamboyant, stereotypical gay men it is just pushing stereotypes.

somewhat connected to the last issue, when writing mlm relationships, don't try to create a clear "this one is the girl and this one is the boy". this means don't make all of your couples really stereotypical twink + bear relationships. have them be diverse! mlm can express-

themselves in all kinds of different ways, so please try to stay away from these kinds of stereotypes. this ALSO includes having a "top/bottom" dynamic. don't write one character in the relationship as super dominant while the other submissive. it's weird and fetishistic.

include the other aspects! our romantic attraction! dates! hand holding! etc etc. they don't exist purely for anyone to treat them as fetishes.

INCLUDE DIVERSITY!! don't have all your mlm rep be skinny white gay men! include all of us- aspec, poc, trans, nby, poly, disabled, nd, etc!! if your entire cast of mlm rep is white skinny cis boys your rep isn't worth much. ALL of us deserved to feel included.

how necessary it is to the character. don't throw this kind of thing in just because you feel like it! it's a very serious issue and it should be treated carefully.

get opinions from mlm!!!! if you're not mlm/nblm and think something you want to include may be harmful, just ask! mlm deserve their stories to be told accurately and respectfully, and should therefor have a say in how they're being written.

don't write all of your mlm stories about the struggles. not every story about them has to be about homophobia. this also ties into point 8 somewhat. the whole point of mlm rep is to normalize them, so don't write entire stories about how difficult and alien it is.
