The dilemma, over and over again: Republicans want Facebook and Twitter to censor less content, Democrats want them to censor more content. But all sides seem to agree that it's the government's job to decide the right level of moderation.
Zuckerberg (understandably, but wrongly) sort of suggests maybe the government should take this out of Facebook hands, so then it's not his fault, whatever the standard is.
To my mind, the First Amendment—"CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW... ABRIDGING THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH"—prevents the Senate from taking over Facebook's content moderation department.
Zuckerberg points out that they can never eliminate harmful content, in the same way that a city can never entirely eliminate crime. The kind of true, straightforward claim that makes everybody mad.
Cruz sets a trap for Dorsey to admit that Twitter would post warning labels on accurate statements about voter fraud (namely, that it exists at all), and Dorsey walks right into it.
Sheldon Whitehouse, a one-trick pony, is likening social media companies to tobacco companies.
Hawley's questions are some of the least coherent thus far. Seems to think it's nefarious that Facebook employees occasionally talk to Google and Twitter employees about moderation decisions.
Hawley says there's "clear evidence of coordination" on moderation decisions between Facebook, Twitter, and Google. But obviously not all coordination is inappropriate. Social media companies are coordinating with the government, per the government's demands. So?

Senator Kennedy's line of questioning/discussion is fairly interesting, actually.
Zuckerberg says "fire in a crowded theater." Nooooooo
Senator Booker says there's enough evidence that social media has harmful mental health effects on children. This is not true at all. The evidence is extremely mixed: some purported negatives, some positives, not clear if correlation is causation, etc.
Sen. Blumenthal: "There's only one certainty: Mr. Zuckerberg and Mr. Dorsey will be back before this committee." lol
