I saw a video on Instagram posted by a famous actress about Diwali and firecrackers that focussed on how street dogs feel scared when we burst firecrackers. And I have some questions
We have seen street dogs getting scared first hand. There's no doubt that we should be more sensitive towards all living beings. But this sensitivity needs to be there throughout the year.
Let's avoid crackers on New Years' as well. Let's not celebrate any political victory. It's not a rule to light 10000 ka mala after IPL or for anyone's birthday. Or even in the entertainment industry! *Award shows, take note!*
"Guilt" is far from being the best way to convince someone to quit a bad habit. If guilt worked, people would've left smoking a long time ago after watching the infamous "Mukesh" advertisement.
People who know the bad side of fireworks have already given up on them. There's no point in making them "the villains". If you want them to change, you need to be better at communicating your message. How can you do that?
Lead: Inspire them. Show what YOU are doing!
Encourage: tell them how they can be a force for good
Educate: Can you expect a drug addict to give up overtime? Show them the path. If people cannot stop, give them an alternative to reduce!
When you preach what you don't practice, your message falls flat. But if your goal is just to get eyeballs then kya farak padta hai?
