Loads of great advice from @AbigailHobden @Compass_Execs on recruiting and inducting team members in a virtual world. Here's a thread for those who missed it! #ACEVOFest
Candidates are much more likely to be "shopping around" in the virtual recruitment space, so how they experience your organisation from the outset and through the whole process will be crucial to successful recruitment. @Compass_Execs #ACEVOFest
Within virtual hiring, the more stages to the recruitment process the better. Kick off with a 20min Zoom call as an initial getting-the-sense-of-each-other step, then have informal, formal, panel, meet-the-team, fireside chat stages. @Compass_Execs #ACEVOFest
Be clear with candidates what the process involves: these are the stages, here's who will be involved, this is the tech we're using. There are new rituals to online recruitment, so help them understand the steps of the new "interview dance". @Compass_Execs #ACEVOFest
Think carefully about how to create a human connection at the beginning of the interview, to relax the candidate and get a sense of them before they start "performing". @Compass_Execs #ACEVOFest
Have a planned set of comms with your new hire while they are working out their notice with the old job. Make sure they have full access from day one to what they need to do their job (esp around tech). Book in a virtual team coffee in week one. @Compass_Execs #ACEVOFest
During induction, build in opportunities for them to speak to people they won't necessarily work closely with so they get a sense of different departments/people within the organisation and a wider picture and sense of the culture. @Compass_Execs #ACEVOFest
Inductions will need to be a longer process than in non-digital times: plan for at least 6 months. During that time, as well as "how well are you doing your job?" make sure you're regularly asking "how are you doing yourself?" @Compass_Execs #ACEVOFest
And finally, check in at the end of the induction period to ask what they did and didn't like, what was missing or particularly helpful, so you can keep refining and improving the process. @Compass_Execs #ACEVOFest
