Here's the deal, gang. COVID is raging in the USA while Trump sits on his thumb and twirls. Don't be part of the problem: stay home this Thanksgiving. I know it sucks. I know. But don't you want to make sure you and your loved ones gets to have more Thanksgivings?
I know humans are gonna human, but holy hell, folks, it's Thanksgiving. It's a day. Try and look further down the road here. And in the mean time, spend this Thanksgiving looking to your community. Odds are, your grocery store is going to be just fine—but what about restaurants?
We've all already lost some of our favorite restaurants—RIP @AquagrillNYC to use a personal example—and we don't want to see more go under. That's why this Thanksgiving, Chelsea and I are getting our entire dinner from a restaurant that means a great deal to us.
This year, our whole meal (a full-on Thanksgiving dinner for two, plus scraps for Marty) is being put together by the fine folks at Good Enough to Eat ( @GETE_NYC) with a bird they're preparing from @SchatzieNYC. (Wine provided by @astorwines.)
We didn't just pick a restaurant out of the blue, we picked a place that's important to us. We've eaten at GETE for years, brought out-of-town family there, had dinner with friends, work holiday dinners, Christmas Eve brunch at the bar—it's a place with history for our family.
I know some will call me cruel for trashing Thanksgiving travel. I get it, you all miss your family & friends. I miss my family & friends too. But my dad turns 75 on Saturday and I'd really like to give him a hug at his 76th, so let's all just gorge ourselves at home this year.
Stay home, order in, support a favorite restaurant that's guaranteed to be struggling right now, and save some lives in the process—maybe even your own.
