I respect the hard work that goes into writing these books about hip-hop but it’s a lot of white guys in those privileged positions and not nearly enough Black/Latinx writers and the optics are so bad.
Shout out to @SheaSerrano and his #HalfwayBooks initiative that centers BIPOC writers in the hip-hop book writing space. Please support this project with your money.
Shout out to @mariasherm who wrote what will likely be regarded as the definitive book on boy band history and culture. Please buy a copy for yourself and as a Xmas gift for the teen/tween in your life.
Shout out to @MarcusJMoore for writing his Kendrick Lamar book NOW and not waiting until 2040 or some shit to give the man his flowers. Please buy his book from an independent bookseller immediately.
