Ever since @nnesaga guested on that Inside Gaming video, a lot of ignorant folks have been coming out saying "numbers are important, it's not about the colour of your skin" and this is beginning to really grind me because of one particular reason... https://twitter.com/ShireenPlays/status/1328704727392133121
It seems like people are ignoring/forgetting the fact that the algorithms that work on sites like Twitter, YouTube etc are inherently biased to white people because of the unconscious bias at work by the people who create those algorithms!
What that essentially means is that black people and people of colour are always being pushed down the line and are never getting the spotlight as much as white content creators despite all their personality and hard work
We have literally seen this in action with how Twitters algorithm crops photos that have black people in them, and these kinds of algorithms are rife in a lot of (if not all) of the social media platforms we use.
So because of that reason, it's always been a struggle for people of colour to get those "numbers" that you're all preaching about as the system is working against us. Unconscious bias flows into the tech that we all use and this is a big problem.
Therefore it can't be about the numbers as they are always going to just be from one particular audience and studios and developers need to recognise that if they want to reach a wider audience, they need to look past those numbers, and actually look at the people themselves.
