Could all our river valleys look like this?

The Ballymacraven as it enters the Inagh at Ennistymon.

Unfortunately, the river is low status due to pressure from forestry (phosphorous) upstream at Lickeen Lake.

Arctic char existed in the lake until a toxic algal bloom in 1998.
To me, properly designed riparian woodlands are a 'no-brainer'

✅Wildlife corridors/habitat
✅Nutrient buffers/water quality
✅Bank stabilisation/erosion prevention
✅Carbon sequestration

The good news is that the Ballymacraven is teaming with juvenile trout & salmon this year.
A little look inside "the glen" as its called locally.

Glean = valley in Irish.

Mostly beech with oak, horse chestnut, lime, ash, sycamore and lots of small elm.
