They have songs against segregationists, against racism, pro gun control, and even songs acknowledging black influence on their music. they literally wore neil young shirts in stage bc they were big fans and the line in “Sweet Home Alabama” is meant to be ironic lol. That entire song is ironic and sarcastic!!!

idk why it’s so hard to get that issues of identity & “southernness” are incredibly complicated and cross-cut by race and class, and always exceed their context and intention. You really can’t boil it down to “stars & bars == racism”.
