For those following rule of law issues in the UK- a reminder that a Government decision on the Finucane case is due by 30 November.

This is important for us all, esp the legal community.

Patrick Finucane was a criminal solicitor shot dead in 1989. /1
/2 Last year the Supreme Court declared there had not been an Article 2 (right to life) compliant inquiry into his death:

Before that, in 2003, the ECHR also found Art 2 had been violated and that there had been no proper investigation into his murder.
/3 The Committee of Ministers @coe have been supervising the implementation of this decision.

In September, they gave the Govt a deadline in December to confirm how they intend to conduct an Art 2 investigation into Mr. Finucane's death:

/4 The Finucane family have been campaigning for a full public inquiry for decades.

The campaign is supported by hundreds of lawyers around the world as well as a raft of intl' human rights orgs.

Patrick's old law firm Madden Finucane links some here: https://madden-finucane.com/pat-finucane-case-overview/our-supporters/
/5 I always remember what Geraldine Finucane said:

"Pat would have represented the people who shot him."

The decision of the Government in the next few weeks- matters not only to the family but also to those concerned with the rule of law + the role of lawyers in protecting it.
