Sooooo Lego Star Wars Holiday special

Here’s all my wbw thoughts on it and why Ben is totally gonna come back

Obviously this thread is gonna be full of spoilers so please dont RT individual tweets

LEGO SW SPOILERS

So first things first, the very obvious *key that opens a portal between all space and time*

Now in all established canon the wbw doesnt work this way but its LEGOS so the beauty here is not the play-by-play but the concept of this wonky force lore being a big

part of what ever is coming next.

This idea of ‘the beyond’ has been a *MAJOR* theme across all of the Disney Era content that Tros started to hint at (ie the ST was a transition towards that weird, cosmic next step)

Despite it not being a 1-1 parallel to real canon we can tell

that they’re referencing the WBW with the portal imagery, the Lothal-like temple, the blank slate of stars -> these are all visual clues to the wbw

Here’s where things get less obvious: The jedi texts.

We know that SW has been pushing us to the unknown regions/a quest for jedi

history. And the jedi texts play a big role in that

To me, its notable that the texts were a big part of Tros, had wbw images in the VD and then in the lego movie have them very similar, specifically with the eclipse images (we have other threads explaining wbw ties to eclipses)

Bc again while LEGO *isnt* canon, it parodies important elements either in fandom or to the story itself

And tbh my first thought was, oh this is a spoof of the wbw theory. Teasing fandom. Then I remembered...this had to be written and worked on long before the theory developed

Second thing! Rey opens the portal by herself

They make this big to-do of Rey having the power to open this time portal on her own the whole time. But they dont explain why.

I just think its huge that they opened this idea that time and space is a strength Rey can tap into. Like thats a thing that happened.

Just like she heard the voices of jedi past and present on exegol. Or jumped around through Bens past on Takodana.

Three: the sad shit

Not going to sugar coat it. Watching the Reylo scenes hurt so bady.

But after I processed my emotions i realized its actually brilliant that it hurt so badly

This is a parody. A spoof. Nothing about it besides a bit of wisdom is supposed to be serious. Ever.

Yet we get a absolutely heartbreaking moment the second Rey sees Ben (as a past version, still dark side Kylo). And again when she says goodbye.

THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THE PAIN

Like thats massive!

And a clue that SW isn’t done with that particular thread yet. Just like Tros novel made a big deal about emphasizing how Rey felt like half of her was gone.

Now would it have been better to see Ben as Ben and not duel Rey and be a good conflicted boy? Yes!

But again remember the medium we’re getting this in: a farce comedy where nothing should be serious or depressing.

Had they continued down the canon path Kylo wouldve jumped ship etc etc - but that breaks the movie as they need it to be.

We got our nod and it was important

And given all we know about Palps and Vader, yes if we take it too seriously it can be upsetting that ben is hanging around with his abuser. But again this cant go to that dark and heavy place so they pick a time where no one knows what really happened.

What i took away from this was that the Reylos were right.

In a post tros world Rey will still feel uneasy with her friends or not entirely understood, she’ll struggle with being a teacher, Rey will explore new areas of the force, and she’ll be sad about Ben.

Four: the missing ghost

ONCE AGAIN THERES NO POST TROS BEN FORCE GHOST.

Time after time, they have the opportunity to put Ben away for good and they *dont*. They have a chance to say clearly and explicitly that his death (which, yes, happened) is permanent and they *dont*

This is another huge clue: dead ben is just not touched at all in this story *except to underline how sad it is that he’s not with rey*

Yes yes the events of SW lego arent canon but the spirit of it, the emotions they mimic the details they parody are *important* to make fun of

Why? Bc whatever comes next with Ben is super important. Too important to tease or mock in a lego special. They dont want to give any hint of what could happen with him.
