On the subject of student loan forgiveness... I never had student loan debt, despite getting a masters degree. This was because of my military service. Being rich, or being in the military, shouldn't be the only way to get a degree without massive debt. 1/n
Only 1/3rd of the public can physically meet the requirements of the military. Most don't want to join. It's not good for the force to have a lot of people who don't want to be there.

And making college just another inheritance is bad for society and democracy. 2/n
It's getting harder and harder for generations to do better than their parents financially. College costs, and unforgivable loans are a big part of this. The "Great Gatsby Curve" shows we're going the wrong direction. 3/n
What's being proposed isn't perfect, but it's a necessary part of addressing wealth inequality. We need to incentivize higher education, rather than making it a luxury, or something that financially cripples you for life. 4/n
The COVID recession is hitting Millennials and Gen Z the hardest, and student loan debt is impossible to discharge. This is the right thing to do. It's the smart thing to do. It's the long term thinking thing to do. This is consumer spending for years to come. 5/n
