Many of the conditionally released women are subjected to heavy restrictions, including electronic surveillance, travel bans and being unable to return to their studies, work or activism for varying lengths of time.

Often their families are subjected to similar restrictions.
Activist and retired academic Aziza al-Yousef remains under close surveillance, and her trial is ongoing.

Soon after her release, her son Salah al-Haidar was arrested. He remains in detention.

Doctor Walid Fitaihi was arrested in November 2017 along with scores of others at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Riyadh.

He was temporarily released in May 2019, but remains on trial. He and his family are under a travel ban.
