I signed this letter because I’m seriously concerned that infection control is being prioritised over and above the human rights and the emotional and mental well being of women, birthing people and their families. Poor decisions made now will play out for decades to come.

I would like to see such collective efforts to hold the NHS to account following the recent parliamentary report that states the NHS has no target to end the disparity between mortality rates in black and white women and birthing people.

Black women face the challenges all women face in maternity but have with the added layer that they might receive care that is influenced by the care providers personal bias or outright racism that will influencing their care and outcomes.

Even if they are lucky and are supported by a HCP who treats them with dignity, respect and the individual that they are, the fear already present due to the evidence and lived experiences of the women who came before them is always there and will cause stress and harm.
