Why Derby County should go all in for Ralf Rangnick. A Thread #dcfc #dcfcfans
Ralf Rangnick, currently out of work after leaving his job at RB Leipzig when there were talks about him going to AC Milan, this move fell thorugh after the Milan board decided to stick with Stefano Pioli.
Ralf has is seen by many as the godfather of Gegenpress, a style of high press, intense counter-pressure. This technique has become global after its expert use by Klopp at Liverpool and Hansi Flick at Bayern
Ralf has built an dynasty with RB Leipzig and the RB brand helping both Salzburg and Leipzig rise through the world of European football helping Leipzig move through the tiers of German football and into the champions league.
He has developed and trained some of the best players and coaches in the world many of these players are now at Liverpool. Mane and Haaland (Salzburg), Firmino (Hoffenheim), Keita and Werner (Leipzig) and Matip (Schalke)
So why would he come to Derby? Ralf Rangnick has spoken prevoiusly about if he were to go then he would want the "3 Cs", Capital/Cash, Competence and Concept.
Lets go through each one and see how Derby may fulfil each of these items
Capital/Cash. With Derby county's new owner, Sheikh Khaled, distant cousin of the Man City owner, Derby may now be one of the wealthiest clubs in England with Khaled previously being linked with the purchase of Liverpool for around £2bn and Newcastle last summer.
If he is willing to spend then it would fulfil Ralf's desire that "when you don't have to count every penny" you can copy the RB model.
Competence. Arguably probably Derby's biggest issue at the moment, Derby are currently rooted to the bottom of the championship table after 11 games. However many fans would argue that the team is better than that.
Derby so far have lacked a consistent style of football with frequent changes in starting line up over the season so far. But with international players such as Bielik, Marshall, Jozwiak and Knight mid table should be more than achievable by end of season.
Derby have one of the best academies in Europe competing in the UEFA U19 Youth League in March being knocked out by an academy scouted by Ralf in RB Salzburg.
With exciting players having come through the academy such as Knight, Bird, Sibley, Whittaker and Buchannan. Many more waiting for their opportunity (Stretton, Duncan, Bateman, Ebosele, Brown). Derby has a great grounding for building the future of the club around
The Academy has a strong Vision statement and mission on where it wants to be in the future.

Concept. Tied into Competence, Concept is about the Club having an idea about its desire for the future, We have seen in the past and under Cocu a desire for a "Derby Way"/DNA with youth players, attacking and exciting football.
Under Cocu that concept became lost when results dried up and Knight and Buchannan were the only academy players getting on the pitch compared to previous season. With Mel likely staying on as consultant there might still be a desire from all involved that a "Derby way" remains
So some decent reasons for Ralf considering the Derby job, what about why Derby fans should want Ralf? As has been seen in Championship before high pressing football and German Managers have worked wonders in the championship with Wagner, Farke and Bielsa's high press
As has been seen in Rangnicks history he has grown a variety of German teams into top tier teams in Leipzig and Hoffenheim, why not with Derby? He has shown desire to return to England after being at university in Sussex
Ralf Rangnick's preferred formation is 4-2-2-2, 4 at the back with a hexagon formation of the other 6 players to allow for quick closing down. This is what I think his team might look like.
With the high intensity of play, there will be frequent need for young legs to be ready to put their all out on the pitch. There will also be no chance of the players complaining about Fitness concerns or confusing tactics with Ralf being known for his meticulousness
As we we have seen at the start of the season, how injuries can derail us and how important it is to keep a stable squad (Leicester title winning had no injuries).
His Leipzig have worked on physical and mental training resulting in 0 injuries.
Derby could be a perfect opportunity to build a new footballing dynasty with the 3Cs, Capital, Competence and Concept and personally think he would be perfect to take us not only out of the relegation zone but into the premier league and play exciting football
