lol @ the west getting eclipsed by China's approach to monopoly regulation. Doing this will likely keep their local markets competitive & tt will slow the reach of their giants abroad.
& i think this is very much in-line with geopolitical / economic goals for China. The state's interest is in local development of their production of hardware and software for local autonomy, not dominance in already-dominated monopoly markets (US / EU)
so we see state intervention at the level of interoperability, disallowing platforms from fully enclosing their ecosystems and using market pressure to dominant existing and new markets
there is a clear awareness at the highest levels of governance of the centralizing tendencies of markets and how greedy monopolys really do destroy market competitiveness
In the end I think this approach addresses two very interesting elements of platform politics. The first is consumer oriented, competitiveness will supposedly deliver more variety, innovation, etc. The second is platform power and ensuring platform capitalists don't accrue more
some China-watchers might wonder why China is destroying the global competitiveness and growth of their platforms and I think it's because Chinese officials see the writing on the wall IRT the coming trade wars / tech sovereignty regulations in the US/EU
