A thread on why Killua is one of my favorite characters ever:
Killua grew up in the Zoldyck family and never had freedom to do what he wants in life. He wants to live his life in the way he chooses, but because of his family he never got to do what he wants and had to become an assassin like the rest of the Zoldycks. He doesn't like it,
but he doesn't know any better because that's how he grew up. And that's not it, he also doesn't know what he wants to do in life, he knows he wants to get away from his family, but he doesn't have a real purpose in his life. Because of his circumstances Killua never had any
friends despite being a very likeable kid, and while he had a lot of fun being with Gon and the rest, he still couldn't consider himself his friend because he's unsure if he can make friends, or if he even deserves them. He wants to live a normal life and make friends, but he
doesn't know if he can because of his upbringing, because at heart he's a killer, that's what's been instilled in him his whole life. Even when he realized that he's Gon's friend it was still hard for him to believe he has any value to him, he wants to do anything he can for Gon
even at his own expense because that's the only way he can repay Gon for everything he's given him, that's the only worth he has for Gon in his eyes. When Gon compliments Killua he always gets embarrassed and shakes it off because he doesn't believe he really deserves it.
Killua admires Gon for being who he is, for living in the way he chooses, for wearing his emotions on his sleeve, and for being so hopeful while also having a purpose in life. Conversely, due to his unrelenting love and appreciation for Gon, he has forgotten just how much he has
given Gon as well. I can relate to Killua a lot, it's hard for me to make friends, it's hard for me to believe I have any value to anyone, and I don't know what I want to do in life, so when I see how much he's grown and how far he's come in Election I find him very inspiring.
He has made a lot of friends and started seeing value in himself, realizing his worth to Gon and feeling equal to him, he got away from his family and in helping Alluka he found something he wants to do in life, something that gives him a purpose and instead of being a killer
he's a loving older brother and a wonderful friend, and all of that makes me very happy.
