1. Everyone is a leader of self.
You don’t need to be in a position of authority to display the levels of integrity & self-awareness that great leaders do. Start with yourself; those around you will follow.
Respect yourself, and match your actions to your values.

2. Curiosity & passion are the drivers of excellence.
To be a leader, you need these qualities. Without them, you can't become adept enough to stand out from the crowd.
You have to seek the next level of performance; regardless of the domain you’re in.

What’s more, possessing & displaying these qualities whilst also providing support for those less experienced is a huge step up on the ladder of leadership.

3. Know your ideals, know your limits, and encourage questioning.
You can’t talk about what you don’t know. Staying within (and / or broadening) your circle of competence is essential part of the previously mentioned self-awareness & integrity.

Seeking out mentors & experts in the areas you intend to talk about is an unquestionable demonstration of these two qualities.
Doing this will also encourage questioning amongst your peers, and those you lead. Showing your curiosity encourages curiosity in them.

4. Test yourself, and test your methods
Be sure to always reflect on your work, and look for ways to improve. When you’re trying something new, you’d better give it a damn good go; if you don’t, you’ve not really tried it.
