1/ He has double the followers of the league, so they’ve spotted the benefits of a partnership (a bit late, but still).

More leagues should partner up in this way. Clamping down would be embarrassing now it’s been going so long.
2/ Charity will benefit, so positive PR for both sides. Foster is building a good personal brand (sorry, I hate that phrase too) as he edged closer to retirement.

This strengthens his reputation, increasing potential income, and probably gets more followers too.
3/ The claimed £50k income is dubious. Relies on so many other factors, such as Forbes’ claim of £4 CPM. Likely closer to £1, but it’ll no doubt fluctuate.

The income isn’t why Foster will have been doing it, but great that a charity will benefit.
4/ This is apparently a one-off agreement, but sets a precedent. If Foster’s allowed, why can’t clubs?

Creating exceptions - even for charity - could open the doors a bit.
5/ It’s a really good format, and clearly of interest to a lot of people. And also great advertising for GoPro (the camera he uses). Over 200k views on the last few, and he even has giveaways and contests for GoPro equipment.
6/ Footballers as influencers isn’t a new concept. This, however, comes across as a lot more authentic than the ‘big’ names that make the headlines.

Foster wants to get into cycling more when he retires, and this is a very sound way of using his current fame to prepare.
