WHAT IS IT? - #DisabilityOptIn is a campaign to promote the importance of disabled creatives at all levels in the industry.

WHAT IS IT? - #DisabilityOptIn is a campaign to promote the importance of disabled creatives at all levels in the industry.
WHY? - Disability remains the most underrepresented minority group in the industry even though we make up over 20% of the population. There is a distinct lack of opportunity for disabled creatives...
... which has been further highlighted by Spotlight UK recently allowing casting directors & producers to use a disability 'opt out' tick box for any roles they felt wouldn't be right for deaf &/or disabled actors.
We aren't stupid - we KNOW there will be roles we're not right for, JUST LIKE EVERY ACTOR ON THE PLANET! What's deeply troubling is that, by using this offensive & inaccurate generalisation, disabled creatives were left feeling undervalued & unwelcome in their own industry.
OUR AIM - To get decision makers, industry execs, production companies, producers etc to actively promote their support by using our hashtag #DisabilityOptIn & commit to simple ways in which they will help increase opportunities at all levels for disabled creatives.
I NEED YOU - Whether you're in the industry or not, you can help create change by sharing the hashtag #DisabilityOptIn. Diversity both on & off screen benefits EVERYONE & disability must always be part of that. It takes all of us to change the world & together we will.
