While all Arsenal’s transfer talk has been focused on a creative midfielder, the club has been linked with midfielder Boubakary Soumare, currently with LOSC Lille. There is a possibility that he could join the club soon, so who is he and what could he offer to this Arsenal side?

BACKGROUND
Boubakary Soumare is a 20-year old French defensive midfielder playing for Lille. He initially started out playing for the youth teams of Paris FC at age 7. In 2011, he joined Paris Saint Germain’s setup and climbed up the ranks, later playing for the B team.

Ahead of the 17/18 season, Soumare joined Lille. He played 14 Ligue 1 games that season, before playing 18 the next. Last campaign was his breakout season, however, becoming a key part of Lille’s side and a wanted man across Europe with links to Manchester City and Arsenal.
STRENGTHS
Soumare is an excellent passer. He shows quality on the ball and has the ability to dictate play. He also likes to receive as much of the ball as possible. In the below image, Soumare gets the ball while in between the centre backs as he looks to advance the play.

In the below image, Soumare receives the ball in his usual holding midfield position. He doesn’t have much space to work with, but still plays the ball into a dangerous area. Not only does this immediately create an opportunity, but disrupts Monaco’s shape.
Another strength of Soumare’s is his dribbling ability. He’s confident with the ball and has a lot of skill, making dribbling one of his most effective qualities. With time and space, he can be a dangerous dribbler, as shown in the below image. He thrives in these scenarios.
