1/ Buy Clyde Edwards-Helaire now in dynasty. The narrative has flipped and you’re seeing countless “what if the Chiefs had taken [insert less productive rookie RB here] creeping across your TL. As an individual, CEH has been the best rookie back outside of James Robinson.
2/ first some stats. Despite seeing only 26 touches the last 3 games, Clyde is 11th in the NFL in all-purpose yards. He’s 2nd in the NFL in evaded tackle rate. Has two 130+ yard rushing games. And the Chiefs are 32nd in ESPN’s run block win rate https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/29939464/2020-nfl-pass-rushing-run-stopping-blocking-leaderboard-win-rate-rankings
3/ Clyde has had several big plays called back on penalties, including 2 TDs
4/ unsurprisingly, his volume has taken a hit since LeVeon Bell came in. But:
- snaps: Clyde 75:53
- carries: Clyde 19:16
- targets: Clyde 12:4
- yards: Clyde 128:80
- snaps: Clyde 75:53

5/ the message out of KC the entire time has been CEH is their guy, but they don’t want to run down the rookie in his first ever 16-game season with an anticipated deep playoff run
6/ Reid has a history of easing in rookie RBs. LeSean McCoy started 4 games and handled 40% of the carries as a rookie. Brian Westbrook wasn’t the lead back until year 3.
7/ Despite running behind the NFL’s least effective run blocking OL, Clyde has dazzled. He’s shown the elite vision, processing, contact balance and elusiveness that got him drafted in round 1. https://twitter.com/jmoyerfb/status/1306604052843655169
8/ Reid has kept Clyde’s involvement in the passing game very vanilla. This is likely bc Clyde is a rookie (go look up Westbrook’s targets by year), the offense is complex, and Reid likes to save some things for important late-season games.
9/ In sum, Reid’s desire to ease in rookie RBs, coupled with the opportunity to add Le’Veon on a cheap 1 year deal made the move a no-brainer. CEH’s upside is volume-capped this year. But he’s played very well as a rookie, & will be a very good player for a long time. Buy Clyde.
10/ (also, people are dubious of ‘small-slow’ RBs who win with skill, and often actively root against these guys being good. Take the measurable-bias discount)
