Slip Arc (Gintama) is one of my favorite arcs in anime/manga and a strong 10 for me. Will try to explain why I love it so much.
First of all, it gives us a "back to home" feeling. After experiencing so much dark and heavy stuff in SA-Rakuyo arcs we needed smth fun. We saw chars that weren't in those arcs back and characters that were in arcs' finally breaking this dark and emotionally exhausting journey.
Hasegawa-san was really awesome in this arc. He played a great role in creating this "back to home" feeling. We finally saw our Madao doing his things after the serious stretch. He provided much needed fun in his way.
The other thing Slip arc did was showing us the corruption in Gintama's world. Dai is such a uniquely and amazingly crafted character. He loves to manipulate people and use them. He finds pleasure in using people whom he loves and showing the corrupted side of Gintama.
Shinpachi beautifully contrasts that in the arc. He shows how much he loves his friends and want to help them. He shows the hope in the corrupted world of Gintama. Him Kicking Dai and taking a stand for Kagura, Gintoki & Umibozu are so emotional and great scenes.
The next thing this arc does is developing the Nishiki Family and showing how each member sees Matsugorou. The best example is Daigo. The arc shows his sacrificial love for his father(in-law) & wife. A scene that perfectly shows his character is where he says even if dies she has
to keep making ramen at new year's. So, he loves wife and his family with all his heart but has a metaphoric way to show it.
This arc was really amazing for Otsu. Her character arc beautifully fleshed in this arc. 339 is one of my favorite anime episodes. Otsu and Kagura's farewell is so beautiful and amazing. Kagura finally being an "equal" to Otsu, finally has a purpose in her life. Her teasing Otsu
that she owes her so she finally has self worth and equal to and now she has something more important in life then being a friend of Otsu.
Slip arc also does so much to Gin's character. His interactions with Umibozu, Otsu and Ikumatsu shows that he has grown and learned from what he did post war. Another thing I loved is how he troubled people in first ep when he started his journey and in the last ep of arc
troubling others during Sports meet. Kabukicho itself is so amazing. They're the personification of the main theme of the series. "Happiness depends on each person. If you think you're happy, then you must be happy" is one iconic quote of the series, it ties the narrative of arc.
This theme was showed by some other characters as well in the arc. GKB48 showing this theme in thier own twisted way by valuing the joy of crushing idols more than actually creating music. Otsu having her goal of solo singing and enjoying her little happiness.
So, in short this arc does so many amazing things to the world of Gintama and the characters. And so many emotional moments that I had to give it a 10.
