Similar reason to why I’m not sure why anyone would want to trade UP in this draft. You will NEVER know less about the player you’re drafting than you do this time (unless you’re drafting Nikoloz Tskitishvili).

Let’s say you’re the Boston Celtics. Got good depth. Got a bunch of draft picks. If you’re looking at MLB, at NFL, at European soccer — you should realize that depth and a lot of darts to throw at the future are extremely good things right now.

But I mean let’s all agree to this one thing, regardless of all the other things:

If Zion Williamson can do what he did when he did it, and he can do that for 65-70 games plus the playoffs for several years in a row, the Pelicans are about to be doing the thing.
