I've been mentioning Javonte Williams the past few weeks and it he's getting more and more attention now due to his outstanding play. Junior running back out of UNC has been in a timeshare with Michael Carter, yet I think he's the better back. How good? Check out this thread 👇
Williams is an overall explosive runner. Elite vision, and good footwork as a runner. He demonstrates a great ability to make one cut and get upfield. Explosive when he hits the second level, eliminating pursuit angles and can lower his shoulder and be physical when needed.
Incredible contact balance and lower body strength. Rarely do arm tackles or the first defender bring him down.
Currently he is
1st in NCAA with 35 explosive plays
2nd in NCAA in YCO with 584 (out of 896 rushing yards)
1st in NCAA YCO Avg. with 4.87
Javonte is also an incredible receiver out of the backfield. Smooth hands and a good route runner. Once he is in space he is elusive and almost immediately gets positive yards.
He is also demonstrated a willingness to pass protect as well profiling as a 3 down back.
218 receiving yards
192 YAC
9 avoided tackles

Can run multiple routes and find openings in the defense as well.
Javonte is also an elusive runner and something I don't see mentioned enough. He currently has
120 carries 16th in NCAA.
Yet he leads everyone with
62 avoided tackles.
The next closest RB has 41 (who has 46 more carries.)
So to recap Javonte Williams
5'10 220 Junior

Physical runner ✔️
Receiver out of the backfield ✔️
Elusive runner ✔️

He can do it all and doesn't have a ton of work on his legs.

Right now Williams is my RB3 for 2021, but could work his way up to 2 and be in the discussion at 1.
