#HuracanIota is hitting the carribean coast the most impoverished region of #nicaragua. Home to Nicaragua’s indigenous and afro descendant communities. The region does not have the infrastructure in order to sustain the communities from any natural phenomena like #HuracanIota
But Nicaragua is also dealing with the #pandemic and an on going social political economic crisis.

Since #HurricaneEta passed Ortega has politicized humanitarian aid. He has persecuted those who have tried to give aid to the victims. In addition nicaragua foreign aid law which makes it difficult for organization to receive outside aid.
Most aid has come through mutual aid help. Government aid has been little to none, and if anything the administration chooses whom to give the aid too. As #Hurricanelota disintegrates #Nicaragua will need lots of help in recovering.

Do not rely on government aid. It’s not easy given the circumstances because #DanielOrtega politicizing everything. If you planning to donate make sure it is independent from the state and mutual aid.
As I have done before. I am trying to share as much as I can. But also a simple retweet to this thread is a lot. #Nicaragua needs attention it’s the 2nd poorest country in the Western Hemisphere living under a dictatorship. #Hurricanelota #SOSNicaragua
