In the past few days, screenshots of posts from fake Parler accounts for conservatives have taken off on social media. Here are just a few examples.
A screenshot of a post from a fake Tucker Carlson account on Parler makes it look like the Fox News host is leaving to join NewsMax. He's not, but the screenshot is being passed around Facebook as if it were true. https://bit.ly/38NQkUh
A screenshot posted on Facebook made it look like Sen. Kelly Loeffler, R-Ga., said "Black people shouldn’t be allowed to vote" in a Parler post. She didn't — that account was also fake. https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2020/nov/16/facebook-posts/parler-post-attributed-loeffler-about-black-georgi/
A TV station in Jackson, Miss., debunked a fake Parler account for Gov. Tate Reeves. Same deal: A screenshot of a post from the fake account had circulated on other social media platforms. https://www.wlbt.com/2020/11/12/fake-parler-account-miss-governor-causes-online-controversy/
. @viaCristiano found several more examples of fake Parler accounts for GOP officials over the summer. I can't help but feel like we're going to see a lot more of these as Parler's user base grows. https://www.politico.com/news/2020/07/02/republicans-parler-trolls-347737
