She’s not wrong. It’s hard and stressful and a lot of administrative BS. There are back doors and hidden balls and secret handshakes. It’s infuriating and difficult.
But most lawyers try to lead you through that. They didn’t create it...

There were lawyers who created it. There are certainly lawyers who perpetuate it to their own benefit. But that’s not everybody.
However the system got too complicated, it is complicated. For everyone. Lawyers who navigate that in your name deserve to be paid...

My friend gets paid well to do what she does. So does her husband. He makes way, way more than the average attorney. He’d never work for free just because it’s hard.
By all means, be mad about the unneeded complexity where it exists. But call your legislator and get mad at him.
