Getting today's MOT meant finding a new garage, as I moved to a new town a few months ago. A quick Google search showed me five testing stations close by. Three I wrote off right away, based on reviews and/or their FB pages. I decided to visit the other two, for more info. https://twitter.com/jakebeldercars/status/1328329183802646528
Turned out I didn't need to visit both, as the first one blew me away. It's a full service station in the next village, run by the same family for the last 50 years. The owner was behind the desk. He was incredibly friendly, introduced himself, and told me a bit about the place.
I asked him about their MOT tests, and straight off the mark said the kind of thing that is music to my ears – they don't fail you for things like bulbs or wipers, they'll just replace them right away. Promised to ring if there were any problems to dicsuss it before proceeding.
He asked about my car, and I ended up telling him that I really enjoy doing my own spannering. He thought that was great, and said that if I ever had a question about anything, or needed some help, to let him know.
Needless to say, this guy's got my business as long as I live here. And that includes petrol – whenever I can, I'll fill up at his station. This kind of customer service is increasingly rare, and I'm always glad when I can support small, family-run businesses.
