BREAKING: San Francisco is back in the state's red tier for #COVID19, meaning the virus submission is "substantial" here. Mayor London Breed orders non-essential offices to close and restricts capacity at gyms to 10%.
There are now 97 new cases per day, up from 29 in mid-October.
San Francisco is urging residents not to travel outside the county and to quarantine for 14 days if you do travel.
Nearly 300,000 San Franciscans have filed for unemployment since the start of the #COVID19 pandemic, says Mayor London Breed.

"San Francisco is in a major surge of #COVID__19 cases," says Dr. Grant Colfax, saying this is our third surge and it's impacting every state in the nation. "Here in San Francisco are are seeing an explosion of cases throughout the city."
Colfax says hospitalizations remain stable, but an increase is expected following the case increase. There is sufficient ICU bed capacity for now. City is testing 5,800 people a day and contact tracing 85% of cases.
41 of California's 58 counties are now in the purple tier, the worst. San Francisco has moved back two tiers from yellow to red. "Additional restrictions could become necessary if each of us does not take immediate action today" -- Dr. Colfax
Dr. Colfax says people should not travel for Thanksgiving and shouldn't rely on a negative test to do so. People who test negative can still have the virus if they're early in their infection. People should quarantine for 14 days if they come into contact with someone with COVID.
"Let's really celebrate big next year" -- Colfax
Mayor London Breed says she's still "definitely" pushing for SF public elementary schools to open in January. She said planning needs to proceed so schools can open as soon and as safely as possible.
Asked about rising cases in the Marina and Presidio Heights, Colfax says cases are increasing around the city because "people are letting down their guard." He says it's not a time to socialize with people in close quarters.
