/ DiDi and BYD spent three years perfecting D1; by leveraging data from DiDi’s millions of passengers/drivers and combining it with BYD’s manufacturing & battery expertise, they are transforming shared mobility into an intelligent, user-centric experience.
/ DiDi already completes over 10B rides per year (compared to Uber's 7B globally), & the 1M EVs that run on DiDi's platform account for ⅕ of all EV mileage in China. The D1 fleet will contribute significantly to the electrification of the world’s largest transportation market.
/ D1’s differentiating advantages compared to traditional cars used for ride-hailing: added safety, operational efficiency, and data-driven user experience.
/ In addition to Level 2 ADAS, D1 is equipped with DiDi’s Mobility Safety System with features such as intelligent driver monitoring, a smart steering wheel with safety alerts & response functions, and AI voice/video analysis that uses facial and object recognition.
/ D1 has “DiDi Smart Driver”, which facilitates the flow of the ride-hailing system: driver verification (facial recognition), payment, pick-up, & drop-off. The driver interacts with the system through the dashboard MCU, a voice assistant, & the smart steering wheel.
/ D1 uses color-coded lights as indicators to match passengers with their rides. It also has powered sliding doors to avoid hitting other vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians, etc. Passengers will experience extra space and the ability to control climate and infotainment settings.
/ During the unveiling, DiDi shared a more realistic timeline for autonomous ride-sharing. It plans to start its pilot program with 10,000 D1s in December, and expand to 100,000 in 2021. By 2025: 10M autonomous D1s. By 2030: the cockpit will be removed from all D1s altogether.
