I am part of an increasingly small percentage of college (and even smaller percentage of professional school) graduates who started adult life without debt because my parents paid my way. Can’t overstate how much I’ve benefited from this freedom or how little I did to deserve it.
Honestly, it’s why I get to be a writer. I know there are many writers who have risked and given up a lot for their craft, and I admire them intensely but am frankly not one of them. I have always had freedom and a large safety net.
We will all benefit from the cancelation of student debt in all the ways economists have outlined. I know intuitively that literature will benefit if more people are able to choose writing the way I did, because of unimpeded desire.
